Economic stability, strong industrial and manufacturing sectors, access to deal flow and recent reforms to policies and regulations yield significant opportunities for the Venture Capital Industry. The above has resulted in a double digit annual growth rate for the industry, reaching now over USD$ 1.59 billion in capital commitments to Venture Capital investments, distributed over a diverse pool of sectors and strategies.
Mexico´s Venture Capital Industry has 57 active fund managers, and 40 foreign GPs who performed at least one transaction in the last 4 years. In the same line, AMEXCAP registered 522 VC transactions from 2010 to September 2016 and, on the liquidity side, noticed 21 exits.
This is the third year AMEXCAP presents this overview of the Mexico’s Private Equity Industry, with the intent to show the evolution of the industry since its inception.
The private equity industry has come a long way, starting with only 4 funds and USD $400 million only 15 years ago, today we are reaching USD $42 billion of assets committed for private equity investments in Mexico and we have now over 168 active funds investing across sectors. AMEXCAP has registered 1,494 Private Equity transactions during this period of time, of which 36% belong to the Venture Capital sector, 21% are Growth and LBO deals; 37% Real Estate; 4% Infrastructure transactions; and 3% Debt transactions.

This data is based on information from press-release and trade publications, as well as from communication with industry participants and AMEXCAP´s members. The overview will cover from 2000 until third quarter 2015.

Mexico’s Venture Capital Industry has grown significantly reaching a cumulative USD $1,081 million with a CAGR of 27.51% during the past fourteen years. Mexican Venture Capital firms have raised over USD $355 million in 2013 and 2014 dedicated to Seed and Early Venture Capital funds. We now have 37 active managers in this sector.
